Governor's Internship Program Provides Benefits to College Students and Participating Organizations

3/16/2015
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – In a collaborative effort, the West Virginia Division of Personnel of the Department of Administration and the Department of Education and the Arts are pleased to announce that registration is now open for the Governor’s Internship Program, sponsored by the Governor’s Office.

The Governor’s Internship Program assists college students in gaining meaningful summer employment with West Virginia governmental agencies, private businesses and non-profit organizations. Students are placed in internships where they may gain experience relevant to their academic interests while also learning under a professional in those fields. Internships are generally nine to 13 weeks; the pay varies dependent upon the organization.

The application criteria include being enrolled as a student at a West Virginia college or university or a West Virginia resident attending an accredited non-West Virginia college or university. The student must also have completed at least one academic year by July 2015 and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater.  As part of this program, participants are provided the opportunities to attend several enrichment events, including roundtable discussions with community leaders and special tours.

Eligible organizations are strongly encouraged to participate in this worthwhile program to help mentor the state’s college students. For additional program and eligibility guidelines as well as the official application requirements, please visit www.intern.wv.gov. The application deadline is July 8, 2015.
